Frequently Asked Questions
If you have any questions about the Closet that are not addressed here, please feel free to contact us!
When will the Closet become available?
The Closet is set to open October 11th, 2017.
What is the process?
Students who wish to visit the Closet fill out a confidential intake form. Once the form is completed, a staff member will contact the student to set up a time to visit the Closet together, which is located in the Colonel's Cupboard in Commonwealth Hall, around the corner from the Parking Office. All appointments (clothing selection and laundry) must be scheduled in advance.
Who can use the Closet?
Anyone who is a student at EKU, including satellite campuses (Corbin, Danville, etc.). Please bring your student ID with you when you come to pick out your items.
What if I'm uncomfortable doing my laundry at home?
We have a place for you! If you are uncomfortable laundering the clothes that match your gender expression at home, you may do so at the Closet. Student Life & First-Year Experience will not provide detergent or laundry items, nor will we do your laundry for you. To utilize this service:
- You must schedule laundry time at least two days advance
- You must be accompanied by a Student Life staff member the entire time
- You may only do two full loads of laundry at a time
Where are the clothes from?
All clothing is donated by community members. Every item is checked for holes or stains, and we wash items before making them available on the racks.
Are there limits to what I can take home?
Because the types of clothing we have are subject to availability, we cannot guarantee that we have your size or the items in which you are interested. There are also limits for different articles of clothing. This ensures that we are able to serve as many students as possible:
- 3 tops
- 1 bottom
- 1 pack of socks (if available)
- 1 pack of undergarments/undershirts (if available)
- 1 chest binder or bra (if available)
- 1 heavy coat
- 1 full suit
